Sa Torre Cega is a historic tower located on the island of Mallorca, Spain. The tower dates back to the 16th century and was originally built as a defense tower against pirates. The tower stands on a hilltop near the village of Llucmajor and offers a panoramic view of the area, including the nearby salt flats from Salobrar de Campos and the Mediterranean Sea. The name "Sa Torre Cega" means "the blind tower" in Catalan and refers to the fact that the tower has no windows. This was probably a strategic choice, as it made the tower less vulnerable to outside attacks. Today, Sa Torre Cega has been restored and opened to the public as a cultural center and museum, where visitors can learn more about the history of the tower and the region. |
