In 2018, the "11 fountains" launched in Friesland, where eleven internationally renowned artists were commissioned to each design a unique fountain for eleven cities in Friesland. The project aims to promote and strengthen the region as a cultural and tourist destination, and to explore the relationship between art and public space. Each fountain in the project has been designed by an internationally recognized artist and is inspired by the history, culture and geography of the city in which it is located. The fountains are designed to stand out in the public space and to attract the attention of visitors and residents. Most striking fountainOne of the most striking fountains in the project is the "AquaSonic" fountain in Leeuwarden, designed by the Danish artist Mads Christensen. The fountain combines water, light and sound to create a unique experience for visitors. The fountain is inspired by the shape of an ear and has a number of hollow tubes that allow the water to flow and provide a unique sound experience. Another striking fountain in the project is the ï 34;The Kolk' fountain in Sneek, designed by the Dutch artist Johan Creten. The fountain is inspired by historic shipping and is shaped like a giant ship's propeller. The fountain is placed in the water and can be used as a jetty for boats. A third example of a striking fountain in the project is the "Love Fountain" in Hindeloopen, designed by the French artist Jaume Plensa. The fountain takes the form of two human figures leaning towards each other and appearing to be kissing. The fountain is intended as a symbol of love and reconciliation. |
