Have you ever seen a nine-meter high chariot completely covered in flowers and pushed through the streets by human power? The Corso Zundert invites you to experience the enchantment of the largest flower parade in the world. The largest flower parade in the worldThe Zundert flower parade is known as the largest in the world. For more than eighty years, the hamlets of Zundert have been competing to build the most beautiful parade float every year. Due to the fierce competition between the hamlets, the parade has gained worldwide fame and the designers and hamlets continue to find innovative ways to create the most unique car. TraditionThis extraordinary event in Zundert is made possible entirely by volunteers. From growing the dahlias to maintaining the flower fields, and from building the floats to organizing the event itself – everything stems from the unpaid efforts of the Zundert community. The parade attracts people of all ages and the enthusiasm for this tradition is passed on from generation to generation. Procession and exhibition groundsOn Sunday evening and Monday the floats are exhibited, where they come into their own on Monday with movement, music and live performances. Free guides are available for guided tours while the festivities are in full swing. Intangible Cultural HeritageDid you know that from December 2021 the Corso culture is inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity? Our corso far exceeds an ordinary parade. The construction of the parade float and all related aspects is a social and creative process in which the whole community participates for a large part of the year. Young and old, men and women work side by side. As a result, the parade contributes significantly to social cohesion within their community. Thanks to the efforts of the Corso dome, we succeeded in getting the Corso culture included on the Representative List. Twenty carsTwenty hamlets compete for the coveted title every year. On Sunday morning, the floats move from their construction site to the exhibition grounds. There, the cars are judged for the first time by an expert jury. In the afternoon, during the parade, the floats move through the streets of Zundert. During the first passage, the jury assesses the design, the use of colour, the precision of the craftsmanship and also considers the overall picture including music, choreography and movement. After the parade, the prizes will be awarded for the 'corso boulevard'. When the first prize is announced, 'jubel' follows, an exuberant outburst of joy by the winning hamlet. After the parade, the party starts! |
