The garden is an internationally recognized Botanical Garden with more than 3000 different plants and is a member of the National Plant Collection Foundation. The design is also a National Monument.State MonumentA design by John Bergmans (1892-1980). There are four in South Limburg, including the botanical garden in Kerkrade. Bergmans' work is characterized by an extensive range of perennials, rock plants and shrubs, for which he elaborated very detailed planting plans. Views were his specialty.
