HistoryOriginally, the park was created in 1995 by an avid bird lover, who wanted to share his passion for birds with others. The park only opened its doors to the public for the first time in 1997. In 2005, the park was faced with the threat of closure after the death of its founder, Mr van 't Zand. The park then changed hands and a foundation was established to ensure its continued existence. In 2014, the current owner took over the park with the aim of turning it into a full-fledged zoo, with a wider range of animal species and an improved visitor experience. The highlight for Faunapark Flakkee came on June 21, 2018, when the park was officially recognized as a zoo and received a zoo license. Since then, the park has further strengthened its commitment to wildlife conservation and education, and it remains a prized destination for both locals and tourists looking to enjoy the diverse and beautiful wildlife it has to offer.
