Voorwijk is a monumental mansion (Rijksmonument) in the Drenthe town of De Wijk and has almost always been inhabited by members of the Tonckens and De Vos van Steenwijk families. After construction in 1791, patriot and lawyer Wyncko Tonckens financed the construction from an inheritance. After the death of Tonckens and his wife, Voorwijk was inhabited by their five minor children and aunt Willemtje Vos. In 1843, Voorwijk was leased to Reint Hendrik de Vos van Steenwijk, who later bought it. In 1964, Voorwijk was sold to Godert Willem de Vos van Steenwijk and Clara baroness van Pallandt, who have since run a stud farm and breed thoroughbred Akhal-Teke sport horses. Around the mansion you will find Estate Dickninge where you can take a beautiful walk with a view of the Reestdal. |
