When you enter the Haaksbergen station building, you are immediately immersed in the nostalgic atmosphere of the past. Here you can buy your train ticket and get in touch with the travelers of yesteryear in the waiting room. There is much to see in and around the station, such as the workshop and the goods shed. Do you have questions about how a steam locomotive boiler works or would your child like to shovel a bucket of coal themselves? Feel free to ask for the depot assistant. In the goods shed you can enjoy coffee, tea, cake and soft drinks. And in our museum shop you will find nice souvenirs. Location BoekeloAt the railway crossing in Boekelo there is a small building where you can buy your ticket from the station master of Boekelo on driving days. He can show you the way to the museum depot, where most of the locomotives and wagons are still to be restored. This gives you an idea of the amount of work that needs to be done before a locomotive or wagon can be put back into service. We have set up a wagon with play areas especially for children, and there are several large model railway layouts. Salt industry stopThis stop, with double track and an island platform, is located between the stations Haaksbergen and Boekelo. On busier days, when more trains are running, this stop is used to let the trains pass each other. A ride on such an old steam train is a true experience. Children can watch in the front of the train how the old locomotive does its job. And when the conductor comes by, he will be happy if the children want to cut their ticket themselves. There is also plenty to experience and do in the rest of the museum. Children can go on an adventure through our museum using a treasure hunt book. With fun, interactive assignments they playfully learn about the history of our local railway. Disabled peopleDisabled people can also visit our museum and even take a ride in one of our steam trains. Our platforms and buildings are virtually barrier-free, and one of our carriages is equipped with a wheelchair lift. Several trains often run during events, so you may have to wait for the next train with a wheelchair lift. Fortunately, there's plenty to see while you wait, and our staff are always on hand to help. However, keep in mind that the historic pavement is not the same everywhere. Moreover, our locations in Haaksbergen and Boekelo have a disabled toilet. |
