The church of IJhorst is located in the old core near the Reest. The original wooden church was replaced by a new church around 1400 and the current church dates from 1823 on the site of the old building. Interior parts from the old church were reused during construction, including the pulpit, gentlemen's pews, gravestones and tiles. Extra special about this church is that it has a bell tower. After a crack in one of the bells in 1817, a new bell tower was built during the construction of the new church. The original bell was melted down during the war and replaced by the current bell from 1947. The bell tower was restored in 2002. |
