Pieterburen is known for its SRRC, also known as Seal Center Pieterburen. This center was founded in 1971 and aims to take care of sick, weakened and young seals, care for them and return them to nature.
The SRRC is an important center for the shelter and protection of seals in the Netherlands. Hundreds of seals are rescued and cared for in the center every year. The work of the SRRC is of great importance for nature and the preservation of the seal population in the Netherlands.
In addition to the SRRC, Pieterburen also has other attractions, such as the mudflat walking center, where you can walk on the seabed under supervision at low tide, and the Domies Toen, a beautiful botanical garden with more than 2000 different plant species. Pieterburen is also a starting point for walks and bike rides through the beautiful Groningen landscape and along the Wadden Sea.
