The Dry Dock Park is a unique park in Antwerp that is located on a former shipyard. The park is a quiet oasis in the heart of the city and offers visitors a beautiful view of the docks and the Scheldt.
The park was created after the shipyard was closed in 1981. The site remained unused and neglected for a long time, until it was converted into a public park in 2000. Today the park is a popular destination for walkers, joggers and cyclists, but also for families with children.
The park is divided into different zones, each with its own character. For example, there is a playground for children, a barbecue area and a skate park. There are also various works of art to admire, including an impressive sculpture by the Antwerp artist Panamarenko.
A special attraction of the park are the two dry docks that can still be seen. These dry docks were used to repair and maintain ships and are now protected as industrial heritage. Visitors can see the dry docks up close and learn more about the history of the shipyard.
