A cozy piece of greenery called Park Eekhout is just a stone's throw from the heart of Zwolle. This charming park, located behind an always open gate, was once the garden of Villa Eekhout, built in 1860. In 1910 it became the property of the municipality and grew into the vibrant city park that we know today. A striking attraction in this park is the small petting zoo called Eekhout, located next to an unmissable animal meadow. In recent years, this place has gained popularity with neighborhood children and families from all over Zwolle, largely thanks to the regularly organized and well-attended activities. An example of this is the Toddler Hour, where children up to 4 years old get the opportunity to meet all kinds of animals up close, something they would not normally see. There is also the Animal Club for children from 6 years old. More information and photos of these fun days can be found under the heading 'Activities' on this website.
Although the petting zoo is accessible during these activities, it is usually not freely accessible. Nevertheless, you can always enjoy the spectacle of goats, donkeys, chickens and turkeys that roam freely in the meadow of the Eekhout Petting Zoo and serve as photogenic models. Inside the stable you will also find cuddly guinea pigs and rabbits, for anyone who likes cuddly animals.
