Discover Rotterdam's vibrant street art scene using a handy app that guides you through seven different neighbourhoods. These unique routes, developed by Rewriters, take you on a fascinating journey past breathtaking murals, both old like new.
These routes are mainly composed of works by talented Rotterdam artists, including brand new murals that have been realized especially for these routes. With the app you can even admire 'lost' works by viewing them on your screen. AfrikaanderwijkThe lively Afrikaanderwijk is located in the south of Rotterdam. The neighborhood comes alive twice a week during the busy market on Afrikaanderplein, but the neighborhood also has a lot to offer outside of these market days. You can enjoy the tea house in the park, the botanical garden, the Gemaal op Zuid and the NIFFO gallery, all of which contribute to the unique atmosphere of the Afrikaanderwijk. In the heart of the Feijenoord district, people have their hearts on their sleeve and the district in which they live is more than just a place. In September 2019, the local residents and 10,000 visitors celebrated the second edition of the street art festival POW! WOW! Rotterdam. Central DistrictRotterdam Central Station is an impressive example of modern architecture and serves as an excellent and appropriate calling card for the city. Just a stone's throw away is the Central District, where creative and cultural entrepreneurs gather to work and relax with a drink after their efforts. The creativity that is present here also translates into the large number of murals that you can find there. Moreover, you can walk to the Kruiskade in just a few minutes, where the portrait of Winne, painted by Judith de Leeuw, welcomes you. CentreIn the center of Rotterdam you will find one of the most vibrant parts of the city. The Witte de Withstraat not only offers an abundance of cozy terraces and typical Rotterdam establishments such as Hung Kee, but also innovative galleries such as Showroom MAMA, TENT Rotterdam and the Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art. Moreover, here you will find more street art per square meter than anywhere else. The side streets not only show the work of internationally famous Iranian brothers such as ICY & SOT, but also very personal paintings by Tymon de Laat, who lives in Rotterdam. Nearby, in the atmospheric Leuvehaven, you can admire the boat used as a canvas by the Antwerp resident SMOK, and in the shadow of the Erasmus Bridge you will find the wall with which Lastplak & Friends won the public award of the Dutch Street Art Awards. CrooswijkCrooswijk is located along the river Rotte, a part of Rotterdam with a rich history. It was, among other things, the neighborhood where the legendary boxer Bep van Klaveren once called home. Sylvie Overheul has depicted him and the namesake of boxing school Herman van 't Hof on the side wall of the boxing school. But also the history of Crooswijk as a base for marines can still be found in many street names. |
